You will work in the small but dynamic team studying pyrolysis of carbon materials in primary R&D portfolio of ArcelorMittal, based in Forbach. This laboratory has a significant experience in carbon material treatment. The laboratory is part of Maizières Process research center located in Maizières-lès-Metz (France), whose main job is to ensure R&D activities in ArcelorMittal Group.

Your role

In this position, you will manage various research projects of coal and renewable raw materials such as biomass in iron and steelmaking. As Research Engineer, you will be involved in following activities :

  • Development of cold agglomeration process routes for raw materials (coal, alternative carbon, iron ores, by-products) used in iron- & steelmaking
  • Development of direct reduction processes for iron ore using sustainable carbon materials
  • Elaboration of sustainable carbon materials (coal and alternative carbons) from laboratory scale till industrial implementation
  • Optimisation of existing pyrolysis processes and development of new process routes using alternative carbon as a replacement of fossil fuel
  • Work with different stakeholders (R&D, industrial sites, sourcing, external labs, etc.) at international level in frames of the above projects

Your profile
  • You hold a Master's degree or PhD in materials science, chemical and process engineering or in a related field.
  • You have a first working experience in R&D in materials, chemical or process science
  • You have experience in physical and chemical predictive modelling
  • You have advanced levels of English and French
  • You have advanced communication skills as well as social skills to work in a team within a multi-cultural environment
  • You are innovative, curious and result-oriented
  • You are able to travel worldwide
