Structural Bioinformatician
The role will involve the application ofstructural bioinformatics approaches to all aspects of Astexs drugdiscovery process. This will include the identification andassessment of potential new targets from a structural perspectiveand developing new inhouse structural bioinformatics tools. It willinvolve taking data from public domain structural databases and ourextensive inhouse structure collection and integrating this withproteomics genomics and biological data resources.
You will be part of a team that includes bioinformaticiansbiologists computational chemists and structural biologists. Therewill be opportunities for research into novel methods includingmachine learning based approaches.
The idealcandidate should have a sound knowledge of protein structure andfunction and be familiar with mining diverse datasets e.g. PDBprotein sequences structure prediction homology phylogeny and modelorganism data. You should also have demonstrable programmingexpertise excellent communication skills and the ability to work inmultidisciplinary teams.
PrincipalResponsibilities:
- Apply structuralbioinformatics for target mining and/or analysis
- Support ongoing drug discovery projects e.g. assessmentof potential selectivity issues
- Develop toolsfor mining visualising threedimensional protein structuralinformation integration with multiomics biological data
Preferred skills and Experience:
- Ph.D. in structural bioinformatics structuralbiology bioinformatics computational biology computer science orrelated discipline
- Experience analysingprotein structures and sequences
- Proficiencyin Python
- Good understanding of standardstatistical methods and their usage
- Excellentteam working written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with machine learning methods would be anadvantage but is not a requirement
