Part time: 17.5 hours per week

We are looking for a Taught Postgraduate Manager to join the School of Biological Sciences – Biology Teaching Organisation (BTO). 

Working with the BTO team, you will coordinate the administration of all postgraduate taught (PGT) programmes within the School. You will be responsible for ensuring delivery of high quality services, providing specialist advice to staff and students, and taking forward specific projects to enhance our systems and procedures.

This post is advertised as part-time (17.5 hours per week). 

Job share role, working pattern: Wednesday 3.5 hours (hours to be agreed), Thursday 0900-1700hrs and Friday 0900-1700hrs. This a predominantly on-campus management role, with flexibility for home working on an ad hoc basis.

The Opportunity:

The role will involve representing the School for PGT administrative matters, managing external partnership and collaborative arrangements and will oversee operational budgets and expenditure, including resource planning. 

The post holder will provide administrative support for existing or new PGT programmes which will include timetabling of courses across programmes and Schools; liaising with external institutions; the provision of peer support, study skills or other development opportunities, student engagement and social events taking student experience into consideration. 

The post holder will coordinate the collection and provision of management information and contribute to overall BTO operations as required. 

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Educated to degree level or with equivalent qualifications. The post holder must have had several years’ experience in a relevant administrative/junior management role with an understanding of the higher education context.
  • Proven experience of both directly leading and managing teams.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of taught programme maintenance and course administration.
  • Very good communication and influencing skills, with experience of providing advice to managers. 
  • Excellent IT skills including the ability to use spreadsheets to track and manage information. Experience of various Microsoft packages including Word, Excel and PowerPoint for report writing.
