JOB DESCRIPTION

As an University Teacher Organic Chemistry you will be responsible for giving lectures, tutorials, and practical classes in our first-year organic chemistry courses. Your specific expertise in organic chemistry allows also teaching contributions to more advanced courses. Besides teaching, you will coordinate and assess these first year organic chemistry courses. As part of the organic chemistry education team, you will also contribute to improve our education in general.

Your tasks and responsibilities are among others:

  • teaching organic chemistry courses to first-year BSc students;
  • coordinating and assessing these organic chemistry courses;
  • contribute to the improvement of our education.


You will be part of the education team (5 teachers) withing the chair group organic chemistry. As chair group we are responsible for 13 different BSc and MSc courses within the organic and analytical domain and we contribute to 16 courses from other chair groups. Due to the unfortunate absence of one of our colleagues we have this position vacant. The duration of the contract we can offer will be 1,5 years.

REQUIREMENTS

You have:

  • a PhD in organic chemistry;
  • knowledge of biocatalysis and enzyme kinetics is an advantage;
  • a true passion for education and willingness to commit to the learning development of (international) students;
  • a keen eye for detail;
  • educational competencies corresponding to university teaching qualification or the willing to obtain these competencies;
  • excellent communication skills in Dutch and English.


Part of our education curriculum is given in Dutch. Therefore for this position the Dutch language level is C1. Please note that applying whilst not having the required level of Dutch will not be successful.

The Organic Chemistry group constitutes a large, interdisciplinary research team involved in teaching and research on organic chemistry and analytical chemistry. The group consists of around 30 PhD students and postdocs, a permanent staff of 6 technical employees, a part-time professor with external expertise, 6 assistant/associate professors, an educational team of 5 persons and two full professors. Currently approximately 2000 students/year take part in one or more Organic Chemistry study elements provided by our faculty.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between €3226,- and €5090,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10). Additionally, a contract for 32 hours a week can be discussed. We offer you a 1,5 year contract (18 months).
