Publicerad 2024-07-04

The Department of Computer & Information Sciences at Northumbria University is seeking new Assistant Professors/Lecturers to contribute to the Department’s core activities in research and teaching in the subject area of Computer Networks and Cyber Security. Working within multi-disciplinary teams, you will be responsible for contributing to an exceptional student experience through the delivery of teaching, research, knowledge exchange and business and enterprise engagement activity.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Department of Computer & Information Sciences at Northumbria University rose 54 places to 12th position in research power in REF2021. Our core research strengths include AI, autonomous systems, social computing/HCI and networks and cyber security. The Department provides high quality, research-rich learning for students in computer and data science, AI, cyber and networks, games and business computing and information systems at all levels from Foundation to Doctoral Level. We are seeking to strengthen our academic staff base in the subject area of Computer Networks and Cyber Security and welcome applications for Assistant Professor/Lecturer from suitably qualified individuals.

This subject area is a key pillar of expertise within the Department: we have a large – and growing - population of students taking our BSc (Hons) Networks and Cyber Security undergraduate programme at Newcastle, where we have a range of dedicated networks and security lab spaces. We also deliver a Masters in Cyber Security which is fully certified by the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) running from our London campus. We have been repeatedly recognised as an NCSC/EPSRC Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE-CSR), recognising our research quantity and quality. Our Cyber Security and Network Systems (CyberNets) research group, led by Professor Nauman Aslam, is conducting advanced research in the development of secure and reliable networking systems, covering a diverse range of topics such as malware and botnet detection using AI, hate speech and fake news detection, privacy preservation methods, wireless networking, mobile computing, cloud computing, IoT, and network security.

ABOUT YOU

Applicants should hold a doctoral qualification and have demonstrable specialist expert knowledge and subject expertise in Networks, Cyber Security or related areas. Experience of designing, delivering, and assessing high quality teaching and learning practice as well as evidence of high-quality research outputs are essential. For lecturer grade we would expect an emerging publication record in top journals relevant to the field of Networks and Cyber Security. For the Assistant Professor role, we expect an established and growing publication record in high-impact journals, with an ambitious research plan including grant capture activities.

We are particularly interested to hear from candidates with expertise and experience in Cisco CCNA modules that covers some of the following: Build simple LANs using Cisco Packet Tracer and Cisco hardware, perform basic configurations, implement IPv4 and IPv6 addressing schemes, work with routers, switches and wireless devices to configure and troubleshoot VLANs, Wireless LANs and Inter-VLAN routing, implement switched network using STP and EtherChannel, work with RIP, EIGRP, OSPF protocols in point-to-point and multiaccess enterprise networks, multi-protocol label switching (MPLS), WAN protocols, mitigate threats and enhance network security using access control lists and best security practices.
