Assistant Professor of English Language, Translation and Linguistics

Ca’ Foscari invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor of English Language, Translation and Linguistics.

Ca’ Foscari is looking for an assistant professor of English Language, Translation and Linguistics with a cutting-edge research profile who should also have a strong commitment to teaching new generations of students so that they can become game-changers in their own fields and make a difference in the world. 

The assistant professor is expected to carry out frontal teaching pertaining to the English Language, Translation and Linguistics, in accordance with the needs defined by the Department. Teaching will take place in English, and the Assistant Professor will be required to teach English language from a variety of perspectives (phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, lexical, pragmatics, translation in a comparative perspective with the Italian language).  Furthermore, the assistant professor will have to collaborate with other professors as an organizer and supervisor of the practical English language teaching.

S/he will be required to carry out a significant level of research through publications at a good/excellent national level and at an international level, and by taking part in national and international conferences and research teams; furthermore S/he is expected to apply for competitively awarded research grants or to take part in research teams. The research will concern phonological, grammatical, lexical and discursive aspects, as well as translation studies and the evolution of English as a global language, from a theoretical and applied point of view.

S/he will have to be able to perform all administrative duties and interact with the university administration in Italian.

The position will be hosted in the Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies. The Department has received a “Department of Excellence” Award by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research. The Excellence Award has allowed the Department to develop state of the art laboratory facilities to pursue the theoretical and empirical study of linguistic and cultural diversity.

The Department is unique in its multidisciplinary approach to language, literature and culture, with fertile exchanges between linguistic, literary, historical and political approaches and an international outlook essential to a critical understanding of global society.

The Department actively pursues internationalization, activating joint programmes, Erasmus exchange periods, internships abroad, encouraging publication in international journals and inviting many Visiting Scholars and Professors.
