Come and work within Derbyshire Constabulary’s CREST Team and help reduce casualties and keep the roads of Derbyshire safer.

We are looking to recruit a Data Researcher on a full-time, permanent basis within the Casualty Reduction Enforcement Support Team (CREST) based at Wyatts Way, Ripley. Applicants must be able to work between the hours of 07:00 and 19:00 Monday to Friday. You will be required to drive a police vehicle, therefore a full driving licence is required and the ability to pass a Policy Authority driving assessment.

The role of Data Researcher and Developer is to assist in delivering casualty reduction for CREST and Derbyshire Constabulary. CREST comprises both Police Officers and Police Staff who are responsible for all aspects of speed camera enforcement, administration and process of traffic related offences as well as working with police and partner agencies on schemes and initiatives aimed at improving road safety.

What you’ll be doing

  • Be responsible for the development, maintenance and the updating of appropriate databases to provide relevant road safety speeding data.
  • Responsible for research, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data to identify collision statistics and speeding trends to support Derbyshire Constabulary’s casualty reduction, priorities and strategies.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of camera and enforcement interventions to ensure that annual casualty reduction targets are being met and to monitor sites for enforcement activities producing the most effective casualty reductions.
  • The must haves

  • Have experience of producing written work to a high standard.
  • Educated to A Level (minimum Grade B/6) in English and Mathematics plus hold a further two A Levels.
  • Experience in data and statistical analysis, report writing and making recommendations to colleagues and senior managers.
  • Experience in the interrogation of databases in order to produce statistical reports and charts. Proven advanced experience in the modification and development of data packages, using Excel spreadsheets, including design queries, development and implementation of systems.

    Salary: £26,487-£32,772 (For part time hours the salary will be calculated on a pro-rata basis, this is based on the number of hours for the vacancy.)

  • This role will be subject to a practical test in relation to statistical analysis and data manipulation using Word and Excel databases. This is required as a core part of the role to enable deployment of staff to meet high risk and threat demand in relation to Road Safety across the county. This practical test will take place prior to the interview on the same day. Passing the practical test is essential to be successful.
