Due to expansion of our animal nursing provision, Hopwood Hall College is looking to recruit an outstanding veterinary nursing lecturer to join a high performing team. This is an exciting time to join the department as we look to grow our animal nursing and apprenticeship provision and you will play a key role in this development. The ideal candidate will be a Registered Veterinary Nurse with experience of delivering Animal Nursing and Animal Management qualifications and Apprenticeships, work as a clinical coach in practice is also preferred. Recent employment as a veterinary nurse and good links with employers would be preferred to provide our learners with up to date workplace skills, knowledge and behaviours to support their progression to higher education, apprenticeships and employment. This role is not suitable for un-qualified teachers.

Key Responsibilities

  • To teach on a wide range of full and part-time courses, in line with the college and curriculum area specifications.
  • To contribute to the planning, monitoring and evaluation of the curriculum in the school.
  • To prepare and mark assessments as required within the range of programmes timetabled.
  • To promote and participate in the delivery of Basic / Key Skills.
  • To be responsible for the continuous improvement in attendance, punctuality, retention and achievement of students in designated teaching groups.
  • To produce full, considered and timely reports and references on students.
  • To participate in student interviews, enrolment and induction, open days and other liaison activities.
  • To work co-operatively within a team and attend all team meetings.
  • To fully participate in the colleges ILT strategy including contributing to the upkeep of the sections intranet site.
  • To adopt fully all curriculum initiatives adopted by the curriculum area.
  • To maintain comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of specialist areas.
  • To maintain current and appropriate resources for all course units taught including Schemes of Work, Lesson Plans, and suitable teaching materials ensuring differentiated learning opportunities are in place.
  • To contribute to the total learning experience of students within the curriculum area.
  • To ensure the application of Inclusive Learning in all areas of activity.
  • Ensure continuous development and improvement of professional knowledge.
  • Any other duties of a similar level of responsibility as may be required.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Teaching Qualification or willingness to work towards.

Desirable Criteria

  • Degree and/or relevant professional qualification e.g. HNC/D.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the subject area.

  • Creative and innovative approach to the development of teaching materials.

IT Skills

Essential Criteria

  • Intermediate level of Microsoft applications particularly word and powerpoint.
  • Willing to undertake IT training relevant to their role.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of software packages such as promonitor, goldmine and student record systems.
  • Familiar with using VLEs and E Learning packages.
