Background

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Lecturer in Counselling Psychology to a fixed-term (1 year) part-time (0.6 FTE) position in our Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology team at City. We are a thriving department that delivers high standards of teaching through innovative pedagogy and are proud to be ranked within the top 3 Psychology Departments in London in the recent NSS. For this role, we are seeking applications from candidates with experience of qualitative, quantitative or mixed research methods in Counselling Psychology, as well as a record of clinical practice, supervision and teaching in systemic and/or psychodynamic approaches. Teaching takes place on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during term times throughout the academic year.

Responsibilities

Teaching, supervision, module leadership and marking are core activities. In particular, we are seeking expertise in the practice, teaching and supervision of systemic and/or psychodynamic approaches and a willingness to contribute to other modules. Doctoral research supervision and examination is also key to this role, as is personal tutoring. This will involve being a personal tutor to up to 10 trainees, supporting their academic, professional and clinical development and contributing to the oversight of their clinical placement activities.

Person Specification

The candidate should be able to deliver engaging and high-quality teaching in areas of Psychology that is tailored to diverse student needs and informed by research, innovative pedagogy and scholarship as demonstrated through engagement with the UK Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and supporting learning in Higher Education. Candidates must have an honours degree in a related discipline and PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field. Candidates must also be registered with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist.
