School of Education, Sport and Health Sciences

The University of Brighton is seeking to appoint to the post of full-time Lecturer in Education (Primary Education and Primary English) for its School of Education, Sport and Health Sciences.

The University of Brighton has a very well-established continuum of taught education programmes including: undergraduate education and teacher education courses; postgraduate primary and secondary teacher education; apprenticeships; a Masters programme; and PhD provision, which are also supported by the Brighton Doctoral College. We have an extensive partnership with schools, colleges, early years, alternative and informal educational providers and settings across the region.

We invite applicants who have a strong background and understanding of primary education and primary English. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute across our primary initial teacher education (ITE) undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. We particularly welcome applicants with a strong EYFS and KS1 background.

To be effective in this role, you will need:

  • A good degree in a field relevant to primary education
  • Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent, and proven successful experience as a Primary school teacher
  • Up-to-date, sound knowledge of the field of primary education and primary English
  • Our reputation for high quality education and student experience is evidenced in the most recent higher education league table positions: we are 6th in the UK in the Guardian league table for education in 2024 and 16th in the UK for education in the Times Good University Guide. Our work in Initial Teacher Education (ITE) was rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted in our 2024 inspection. The recently published NSS outcomes for our undergraduate provision in the School of Education are well above the sector average.
