Department of Fashion & Textiles

The Department of Fashion & Textiles is the school’s largest department, offering design & technologies, leadership & strategy, and marketing education, at undergraduate, taught-postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Core research areas include fashion and luxury, textile design and manufacturing, and e-textiles with sustainability embedded across the subjects.

About the role

This role focuses on strengthening and growing our national and international reputation in e-textile materials & manufacturing, and their applications in emerging and/or fast-growing areas (e.g. wearables, healthcare). The role will focus on high quality education and research delivery that complement the school and university’s broader research and education strategy.

About You

You will have experience of teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate level and developing key research activities in relevant areas. You will have experience of securing research funding and leading innovative research projects. Experience of developing new modules/programme and working with industry and external academics is desirable. You will have proven ability to produce high quality research outputs.

You will join a fast-growing department with established facilities and industrial equipment for education and research (e.g. Shima Seiki whole garment and flat-bed knitting, TC2 loom for weaving, printers for printing textiles and e-textiles). You will be part of a multi-disciplinary and diverse team with expertise in textile design and manufacturing (weaving/knitting/printing), garment design, sustainability, electronics and sensors, and wearable applications. You will be joining a dynamic group of academics, researchers and technicians committed to the growth of textiles and fashion at a national and international level.
