The role

The School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol invites applications for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Glaciology. We seek a candidate who can join the dynamic team at the Bristol Glaciology Centre to complement our existing strengths in ice sheet and mountain glacier modelling, remote sensing, microbiology, biogeochemistry, and glacier hydrology.

The successful applicant will benefit from University of Bristol’s exceptional lab facilities for low temperature sample analysis, supercomputing facilities including the UK's most powerful supercomputer Isambard-AI, and excellent research support. The cohesive group culture within the Bristol Glaciology Centre promotes career development through research and support to develop your teaching portfolio. To aid this, we have strong partnerships across the School of Geographical Sciences, the Science and Engineering faculty at Bristol, and with cross-disciplinary research units such as the Cabot Institute for the Environment and our data sciences centre, the Jean Golding Institute.

What will you be doing?

The role of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Glaciology is an open-ended Pathway 1 position, encompassing research, education and administrative responsibilities. This means that the role holder will be supported to develop their research programme, including actively seeking opportunities to fund their research and publish their research findings. They will also contribute to teaching on both our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as doctoral supervision, and will support the activities of the School through undertaking administrative roles as directed by the Head of School.

You should apply if

We encourage applications from exceptional candidates in all fields of cryospheric sciences, especially those skilled in field observations in cold environments and those from backgrounds underrepresented in glaciology. We particularly welcome candidates bringing in-depth expertise in physical glaciology, including geophysics of ice, glacial processes, ice-climate or ice-ocean interactions.
