The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, education and services at local, national and international levels. 950 people from 95 nations work at Swiss TPH focusing on infectious and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health as well as health systems and interventions.

The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH) investigates distribution and causes of infections and non-communicable diseases. To understand and promote the well-being of people in different cultural and environmental contexts, EPH applies various methods ranging from anthropology and social science to biostatistics and mathematical modelling as well as observational cohorts with biobanks.

To lead a major donor-funded malaria capacity strengthening project, the Health Interventions Unit is currently looking for a Project Leader (100%).

Your position

Through the GlobMal project, Swiss TPH helps to strengthen the RBM Partnership to End Malaria by coordinating three of the Partnership's working groups. GlobMal also builds essential capacity among upcoming leaders in the field of malaria control through residential field malaria courses offered to participants from malaria-endemic countries and co-led by experts from around the world.

Your various responsibilities include:

  • Provide overall leadership and representation of the project internally and externally
  • Management, coordination and implementation of project activities, incl. i) coordination of three RBM Partnership Working Groups and ii) organization of annual residential malaria training courses
  • Supervising and supporting project staff
  • Financial management of project, incl. budgeting, acquisition of funds, and reporting
  • Responsibility for project documentation and dissemination
  • Relationship with and reporting to donors

 

Your profile

You should have the following experience and skills:

  • Advanced degree in a field related to international or public health; formal training in project management is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing health-related projects with multiple partners (5+ years)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of malaria control and elimination (or related field) at an international level; an existing professional network is a major asset
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team and to maintain excellent working relationships in a multicultural international environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (German and French are an additional asset)
  • Demonstrated successful funding acquisition is a further asset
