Research Associate/ Fellow in Organic Chemistry (fixed term)

Publicerad 2024-04-22

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic organic chemist for a Postdoctoral Research Associate post within the research group of Dr Mattia Silvi () based in the GSK Carbon Neutral Laboratory for Sustainable Chemistry at the University of Nottingham. This is a highly challenging project in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and requires excellence in contemporary practical skills, demonstrated by your previous publication record. This is a 36-months fixed term post, and is part of a Leverhulme Trust funded research building on previous research from the Silvi research group. The research will focus on the development of novel reactions based on photoredox-radical chemistry. The new radical processes will be applied in target synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients and the late-stage functionalisation of complex molecules.

The successful candidate will carry out the following duties:

  • Undertake with high-level of independence and leadership the development of the new methodology and synthesis under the direction of Dr Mattia Silvi
  • Prepare high quality supporting information for publications resulting from the project
  • Co-supervise undergraduate and/or postgraduate student projects, as appropriate.
  • Candidates must:

  • Hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in synthetic organic chemistry.
  • Proven track record of excellence in synthetic organic chemistry (demonstrated by excellent publication record, proven experience in the development of novel organic chemical reactions and proficiency in organic synthesis)
  • Have excellent organisational, communication and team working skills, and ability to learn new skills and instrumentation.
  • Be willing to contribute writing proposals to secure further funding
  • Be available to take up the post from 1st of October 2024
  • Previous experience in the field of photoredox catalysis and/or radical chemistry and supervision are desirable but not essential.

The post is offered on a full time (36.25 hours per week), fixed term contract for 3 years (36 months). Job share arrangements may be considered.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates maybe considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both yourcurrent line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you arealready undertaking a secondment role.
