Senior Lecturer in Education (Primary English)

Main duties and responsibilities

The successful applicant will work collaboratively and independently within a staff team to plan, organize. and deliver teaching and assessment of students training to teach English in primary schools. The successful person will work flexibly as a team member to engage with a broad range of teaching and other activities in the Schools of Law and Education, drawing on relevant expertise and professional knowledge. The person appointed will work with school partners to support and develop trainees’ professional, subject and curriculum knowledge through provider-based (UH) and school-based training, managing their own work efficiently. Travel to schools will be required to support and enhance school-based mentoring practice. The successful applicant will actively engage in scholarship and/or research, supported by University and School of Education and staff. Skills and experience required The post holder will have proven experience of teaching in primary school(s) in the UK and/or relevant experience of working in the Initial Teacher Education sector. The successful applicant will demonstrate the appropriate breadth and depth of subject, pedagogical and professional knowledge in Primary education to be able to provide effective and innovative teaching in Primary English. In addition, the successful applicant will need to demonstrate a proven track record of making a positive impact on pupils’ learning and progress and be able to visit schools (and other settings) to observe student-teachers’ practice. Qualifications required The post holder will have UK Qualified Teacher Status and a Postgraduate degree in a relevant field or significant experience, or an appropriate qualification at first degree. DISCLOSURE AND BARRING SERVICE (DBS) Our commitment to the University’s Safeguarding Policy, requires that the recruitment of staff in this area, will require the minimum of a Basic DBS Check. In the course of our work and Universityled activities, there may be external or other contractual obligations where a further Enhanced Check is required. DBS Checks may require renewal in line with policy.
