Edinburgh Innovations - Technology Transfer Team

Fixed Term 12-month internship until 20 September 2025

7 hours /week-generally expected to be on the same day each week however some flexibility can be accommodated

The Opportunity:

Edinburgh Innovations is recruiting 3 interns to work for the Technology Transfer Team to support translational activities from the School of Chemistry and School of Physics and Astronomy; the School Biological Sciences and the Roslin Institute and the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies; and to the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

The Technology Transfer Intern will assist EI’s Technology Transfer team with: the identification and assessment of intellectual property (IP); due diligence and patentability assessment; market analysis and the generation of marketing materials to attract new industrial partners; development and implementation of commercialisation strategies.

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • Strong technical background in one of the following disciplines: life/medical sciences, physical sciences, engineering or business disciplines, creative industries, ideally, with hands-on experience in one of the following areas: synthetic biology, chemical biology, biotechnology, diagnostics, drug discovery, medical imaging, therapeutics, regenerative medicine, stem cell biology, digital communications, software, renewable energy, microelectronic devices, big data, sensors, new materials, process engineering, chemical engineering, catalysts, petrochemicals, animal and human health/wellbeing/nutrition; art or business copyright licensing.
  • Strong interest in translational science, intellectual property and technology transfer;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate confidently and professionally with academic staff and industry partners. Competence in Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook;
  • Creative and independent thinker with a demonstrable track-record of taking on new challenges; and
  • Detail orientated, with strong organisational and time management skills
